This artwork has multiple layers of symbolisms, on one layer this artwork represents the country of where the Barkindji people come from along the Darling River in Western New South Wales. It depicts the Darling River and the surrounding lakes and clay flats, the inner circles of the the symbols in each corner represents the energy or spirit of every ancestor that has come before and the connections my people still have with them today. Bunjil (Wedge-Tailed Eagle) is my families dreaming or ancestor spirit, Bunjil created the Barkindji people and helps guide us through life and is the keeper of Lore, the design within the wings represents the rivers and waterholes and the life that surrounds them and is reflected on both sides showing the importance of balance within the physical and spiritual realms. The symbol on the tail represents life’s journey, how I am connected to myself, how I am connected to country, how I am connected to spirit, as well as the lessons still to come.
